kenzo ramen
instant noodle is one of my favourite foods to eat. yea, they make you fat but i just can't resist the chewy noodles and spicy broth. but when i feel like something more special, i visit kenzo ramen for some fancy japanese ramen.
kenzo ramen started on dundas street (near eaton centre) and branched out in four different locations in toronto. cc and i went to the one on dundas. on a saturday afternoon, the place was packed with ramen lovers. there are lots to choose from on the menu. if you are new to japanese ramen, go for something simple like shoyu (soy sauce based) or miso (soybean paste based) ramen and work your way up to something spicier and extravagant.
Ji Su Men ($10.95) comes with lots of vegetables topped with egg (like in egg drop soup). the broth is very thick and rich in sesame oil flavour. if you like eggs, this dish is perfect.
Sapporo Miso Ramen ($10.95) is excellent, so far my favourite. it is the upgraded version of regular miso ramen. i like miso over shoyu because it has thicker texture and deeper flavour. the miso takes away the greasiness of the pork based broth and having lots of vegi and beansprouts makes ramen more enjoyable.
both ramen came with freshly made noodles, cooked to its perfection. very chewy.
the dundas location has small dining area decorated with cute japanese memorabilia. expect to be seated very close to strangers. the service was prompt and polite. if you sit on the upper level, you can see the chefs get busy in the kitchen.
